Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. Situated on the banks of the Vltava River, is about 1.2 million inhabitants, making it the most populous city in the country. The Prague metropolitan area has a population of 1.9 million inhabitants.
Since 1992 the historic center of the city's World Heritage Humanidad.3 Their beauty and heritage make it one of the most visited twenty cities in the world.
After the Velvet Revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall the city has been adapting to market economy.
Prague is located in the heart of Europe, less than 500 kilometre from the Baltic, North and Adriatic. Its coordinates are 50 degrees north latitude and 14 degrees east longitude. In the Czech Republic Prague is slightly shifted to the northwest of the country's geographical center.
The Vltava River runs through Prague, dividing the city from south to north. The Vltava River is a great volume, even more than the Elbe, despite a tributary of the latter.
Prague is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. In 2004 was the sixth European capital visited by tourists, behind only London, Paris, Rome, Madrid and Berlin.
Most travellers arriving in Prague by plane land at the city's international airport, Ruzyne Airport, located 20 kilometres northwest of Prague. For its geographical position in central Europe, Prague is easily reached by train a from many European countries. Spain does not have a direct route to Prague, so to arrive by train will require at least one transfer.
The official currency is the Corona .The Czech Republic plans to adopt the euro in the very short term, although the European Monetary Union has doubts about the viability of the plan by 2012.
The best type of change is usually offer exchange houses close to downtown. When changing money at a currency exchange is highly recommended to ask how many crowns given you so many euros or dollars. The average change is usually in 26 crowns for 1 €.
